The event was chaired by Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Defense Ministry’s Steering Board on COVID-19 Prevention and Control Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don and attended by Deputy Chief of the Department of Politics Senior Lieutenant General Do Can and Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan.

Speaking at the meeting, General Don urged defense agencies and military units to grasp directives of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, and the Health Ministry on COVID-19 prevention and control and take prompt actions to prevent the pandemic from spreading in the military. Defense agencies and military units should also increase information dissemination to raise their troops’ awareness of the disease as well as methods to protect themselves from the pandemic while developing plans to ensure absolute safety during the 2021 enlistment drive.

General Don requested units to carry out missions in quarantine areas to strictly exercise quarantine regulations and military medical establishments to seriously implement COVID-19 prevention and control measures while examining and treating patients. 

Meanwhile, the border guard force should coordinate with local authorities and relevant agencies to prevent illegal border crossings. The General Staff should instruct military units to adjust their training and combat readiness plans in accordance with the new situation, while the General Department of Politics should foster dissemination of COVID-19 related information.

* Amid the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic in Hai Duong province, the provincial military Command has cooperated with local forces and units under Military Region 3 to spray disinfectants in COVID-hit localities.

Particularly, on January 29, the Military Region 3 Command mobilized 20 troops from Chemical Battalion 38 and Company 19 and specialized vehicles to spray disinfectants in over six places in Chi Linh city.

In the context, the provincial Military Command also sent its personnel to guard at medical checkpoints. As of January 29, the province has set up 99 checkpoints with around 300 troops from Chi Linh city’s armed forces.
