At the event, a representative of the Ministry of National Defense’s Department of Legal Affairs briefed participants on the session’s agenda and a draft law amending and supplementing provisions of nine laws on military and national defense affairs: the Law on National Defense; the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People’s Army; the Law on Non-commissioned Officers, Defense Workers and Staff; the Law on Military Service; the Law on the Vietnam Border Guard; the Law on the People’s Air Defense; the Law on the Reserve Force; the Law on Civil Defense; and the Law on the Militia and Self-Defense Force.
Representatives of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Chemical Corps also briefed the deputies on the draft revised Law on the Organization of Criminal Investigation Agencies and the Law on the Prevention and Combating of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction for their study and input during the session.

Concluding the meeting, General Phan Van Giang said the first extraordinary session of the 16th N.A. would consider and decide on many important national issues and involve a heavy workload. He urged the deputies to fully participate in the session’s agenda, uphold their responsibilities, strictly comply with the N.A.’s regulations and working rules, observe regulations on public statements, and safeguard state and military secrets.
He asked the deputies to fully exercise their roles and authority in contributing to issues under discussion. Their remarks should be thoroughly prepared, specific and clearly express their positions in line with the views of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, particularly on draft laws directly related to the military.
General Phan Van Giang also instructed military press agencies to provide focused, objective, comprehensive and timely coverage of the session. They were asked to pro-actively report on tasks and activities related to the draft laws, strictly comply with N.A. regulations and safeguard military secrets, contributing to the success of the session.
