During the event, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Defense Minister, VAVA Chairman, informed General Phan Van Giang about the association’s task performance over the past 20 years since its establishment.

Accordingly, it currently has over 400,000 members across the country. The number of people receiving allowance has increased and the allowance has been gradually improved, contributing to enhancing the victims’ lives.

In addition, on the occasion of important events of the country, Party, State and military leaders as well as sponsors and Vietnamese expats also inquired after and presented gifts to the victims, helping stabilize their lives.

Especially, since its establishment, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) has taken due care of the association, built social protection centers for the victims, promoted information dissemination about AO, among others.

During the event, the VAVA urged the MND to continue to create favorable conditions for the association’s task performance in the coming time, especially on the occasion of the 62 years of AO disaster in Vietnam in 2023; VAVA’s fifth Congress in the 2023-2028 period...

On behalf of the CMC and MND, General Phan Van Giang hailed the association’s achievements in task performance, ensuring policy for AO/dioxin victims. The Defense Minister also informed delegates about the defense and military task performance in 2022 and orientations in the coming time, affirming that policy work for people affected by AO/dioxin holds important significance. Therefore, the CMC and MND always take care of and directed MND functional units to create all favorable conditions for the association.

Furthermore, the MND will continue to boost the work of overcoming AO consequences. General Phan Van Giang also requested MND’s affiliated units and the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) to implement information dissemination about AO issues. The GDP is also tasked with making recommendations to the State on supplementing and amending policies towards AO victims, to name but a few.
