At the very first moments of 2026, in the waters adjacent to Vietnam and Indonesia, via the Vinasat satellite communication system, Major Hoang Van Bien, Captain of Coast Guard Ship 8001, Squadron 301, Coast Guard Region 3, shared that troops aboard the ship had been performing duties to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing there for more than one month. For them, this was a very special honor. “The entire crew was fully aware that being entrusted with missions in the farthest maritime area of the Fatherland right on the occasion of the New Year 2026, especially toward celebrating the 14th National Party Congress, was a significant political task,” Bien stressed, adding that the whole ship strictly observed duty and combat readiness regulations, upheld discipline and order, ensured absolute safety of personnel and equipment, and resolutely avoided passivity or surprise in any situation at sea.

Meanwhile, in the waters bordering Vietnam and Malaysia, Captain Le Hong Duc, Political Commissar of Coast Guard Ship 4039, Squadron 422, Flotilla 42, Coast Guard Region 4, said that in recent days, weather conditions in the waters have been unfavorable. However, all officers and soldiers on board clearly understood their responsibility and honor as Vietnam Coast Guard personnel, entrusted with the mission of safeguarding peace for the country to welcome the New Year 2026.

Capt. Duc emphasized that the entire crew remained united, supportive of one another, with clear task assignments, pro-actively ensuring good technical and logistics support. Each member heightened vigilance, avoided complacency, and stood ready to handle all situations in a timely and safe manner and in accordance with proper procedures.

Non-commissioned First Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Nam, crew-member of Ship 4039, said that though they felt homesick these days, they always encouraged one another, clearly understood that this was an honorable mission of a soldier and a responsibility to the Fatherland. “The trust and support from our families and people are a great source of motivation for us to work with peace of mind and remain steadfast amidst the waves,” Nam stated.

Given an overview of high-level duty performance during the New Year holiday, Major General Tran Van Luong, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Coast Guard, said that the entire force maintained 10 ships on combat readiness duty in island areas; 49 ships performing IUU fishing prevention tasks in key maritime areas and adjacent waters where risks of legal violations, smuggling, and trade fraud exist. At the same time, 14 other ships maintained combat readiness duties at designated military ports.
