The working session was co-chaired by General Ngo Xuan Lich, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense; and Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
Present at the event were also General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA); Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the VPA’s General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister; other Deputy Defense Ministers: Nguyen Chi Vinh, Tran Don, Le Chiem, and Be Xuan Truong; Tran Luu Quang, Permanent Vice Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee; and Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the HCM City People's Committee; among others.
At the meeting, the two sides stressed that the military-defense tasks in combination with socio-economic development in HCM City have been implemented well with practical results.
Particularly, they closely worked in building the whole people’s defense disposition in combination with the people’s security posture, and maintaining a firm defensive area. The leadership of the Defense Ministry and Ho Chi Minh City directed military units, the police, and other relevant forces to promptly deal with issues arising while successfully protecting key projects and structures and major events of the Party and State, as well as ensuring social order and security in the city.
They regularly held meetings to exchange information. The two sides always carefully considered national defense and security factors while drawing up local socio-economic and cultural development plans, especially the master plan for socio-economic development in the Southern key economic zone towards 2020 with a vision to 2030, and approving major 100% foreign invested and joint-venture projects.
The two sides also joint efforts in effectively carrying out the Party’s and State’s sound foreign policy in international integration and defense external relations.
In the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to enhance their cooperation to maintain local order and security, build the city as a strong defensive area on par with its important position as the economic hub in the South.
The city’s leadership affirmed that it will back local military units in performing their tasks, and well take care of local troops, their families, national contributors, and policy beneficiaries.
