At the event, which was attended by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam, the participants recalled the establishment and development of Army Corps 4 over the past years. In particular, Army Corps 4 was formed in July 1974. Only five months after its establishment, the corps launched and obtained its first victory in the battle of Phuoc Long - Road 14, liberating Phuoc Long province, Phuoc Long town of Binh Phuoc province now. That was a significant victory that helped the Politburo and the Central Military Commission make accurate decision and be determined to liberate the South and reunify the nation in 1975.

During the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the army corps joined hands with other armed units to liberate the South and reunite the county. The unit also fought to safeguard the Southwestern border of the country and completed its international mission.

At the event

In the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, the unit mobilized more than 5,000 troops to assist Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province in containing the pandemic. In particular, the army corps’ personnel helped localities unload 47,500 tons of rice, 33,495 tons of vegetables and fruits, and 1,647 tons of goods. They also prepared meals for more than 300,000 patients and transported thousands of people and hundreds of tons of goods.

The whole army corps spent VND 9 billion on preventing pandemic and presented gifts, worth VND 2.7 billion, to pandemic-affected people.

With outstanding achievements, Army Corps 4 was presented with the second-class Feat-of-Arms Order.

At the event, Army Corps 4’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command handed over the Title of Hero of the Armed Forces, which was posthumously bestowed by the Party and State on late Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Cam, to his family.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Cam was born in 1920 in Son Cong commune of Ung Hoa district, Ha Tay province (present Hanoi) and passed away in 2013. During his career, he undertook different important positions, including Commander of Army Corps 4.

Comrade Hoang Cam’s life and career was closely attached to many feats-of-arm of the Vietnam People’s Army. He participated in a number of campaigns such as Dien Bien Phu, Bau Bang, Phuoc Long - Road 14, Xuan Loc – Long Khanh, and Ho Chi Minh and carried out international service in Cambodia.
