The mission is led by Senior Colonel Nguyen Cong Son, Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 4.
During the LIMA 2019, the Vietnamese vessel will join a fleet review and a sea exercise in the north of the Strait of Malacca. Particularly, Frigate 012 - Ly Thai To and other participating ships will practice a number of operations such as screen exercise, ship formation for photos taken, tactical formation, maritime blockade, and ship formation for the closing ceremony.
Additionally, the Vietnamese officers and sailors on board will take part in a culinary and cultural festival during the LIMA 2019.

In Myanmar, Frigate 012 - Ly Thai To will dock at Tanin Tharyi Port in Mergui province. As scheduled, they will pay courtesy calls on local authorities and the Tanin Tharyi Regional Command of the Myanmar Navy. They will also join sport exchanges with Myanmar naval troops.
During her trip, the 012 - Ly Thai To will conduct several missions, including long voyage training, patrolling along the waters and continental shelf in the South, inspecting weapons and equipment, and improving leadership and combat readiness at sea for officers on the ship.
The dispatch of the Vietnamese warship to participate in the LIMA 2019 and to visit Myanmar demonstrates the Vietnamese Party’s, State’s and Army’s determination and consistent viewpoints on international integration and cooperation, and at the same time contributes to ensuring maritime security and safety in the region and the world.
The Vietnamese warship’s trip also shows support of the Vietnamese Defense Ministry and the Vietnam People’s Navy for events held by the Malaysian Defense Ministry and Navy, and their goodwill to boost the bilateral defense relations, contributing to enhancing friendship among ASEAN and regional navies.
The trip also creates an opportunity for Vietnamese officers and sailors to exchange and learn experiences and to promote coordination with regional navies.
Since 1991, this biennial LIMA has been exhibiting aerospace and maritime applications in military, civil and commercial fields. In 2017, 555 businesses from 36 countries including Russia, France, Australia and the US, participated in the event. The LIMA 2019 is themed “Defense & Commercial Connecting Intelligence.”
