Vietnamese defense leader pays courtesy call on Lao Defense Minister
PANO - On the occasion of accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos, Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien paid a courtesy call on Lao Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister General Chansamone Chanyalath on October 10.
During the visit, both sides affirmed their desire to further consolidate and tighten the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and militaries. Regarding defense relations, the two sides agreed to implement the contents approved by the two countries' Defense Ministries in the cooperation plan for 2024.

The Vietnamese deputy defense minister informed General Chansamone Chanyalath about the contents discussed and agreed upon with Deputy Defense Minister Sr. Lt. Gen. Vongkham Phommakon at the working session on October 9, including updated contents on preparations for the second Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange in Vietnam’s Son La province, and Laos’ Houaphanh province, from October 22 to 23.
For his part, General Chansamone Chanyalath hailed functional agencies of the two countries’ MND for good preparations for the upcoming events, and agreed that the two defense ministers would organize the full-dress rehearsal on October 21.
Gen. Chien also discussed several important activities in the coming time, including the annual meeting among Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian Defense Ministers and related activities in Cambodia in November; activities for Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang’s visit to Laos to attend the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM+) in November; and enhancing cooperation in training and exchanges between young officers of the two sides.
Gen. Chien required the Lao side to continue to be in favor of cooperative contents between the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) and Lao Government and Defense Ministry’s agencies, particularly digital transformation.
