"Knowledge and understanding about the conflict environment with many inherent risks, the international principles of humanitarian and human rights protection in such environment, the acts violating International Humanitarian Law, as well as fundamental knowledge about explosive remnants from conflicts, will serve as essential preparation for peacekeepers and ensure they are fully prepared to undertake their humanitarian missions,” said Col. Hung.

At the opening ceremony, Lloyd Gillett, a senior expert on the armed forces from ICRC Bangkok (Thailand), noted that during the course, participants would learn about contents of the International Humanitarian Law and its applicability in peace support operations, thereby helping enhance their knowledge about this area. The participants will also gain insights into and experience to identify unexploded ordnance.

The expert also acknowledged Vietnam’s contribution to U.N. peacekeeping operations, which has helped promote a culture of peace and respect for international humanitarian standards.
