During the meeting, Sr. Lt. Gen. Khamlieng Outhakaysone expressed his delight at the fruitful development of the Vietnam-Laos relations, as well as the two militaries. He thanked the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) for supporting the Lao People’s Army (LPA) over the past time, especially during the year when Laos is ASEAN Chair. The Lao GS chief believed that the participation of the Vietnamese high-ranking military delegation in ACDFM-21 is great support for the Lao People's Army, contributing to the overall success of the event.

In his turn, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong thanked the Lao side for the warm welcome. He highly appreciated the LPA’s thorough preparations for the ACDFM-21, affirming that the Vietnamese delegation will make a positive contribution to ensure success for the event, thereby supporting Laos' chairmanship.

Regarding plans for the two sides’ coordination in the remaining months of this year, the Vietnamese GS chief shared that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has directed relevant agencies to develop and implement cooperation initiatives in Party and political work, defense and security, border management and protection, and officer training, among others.

On the occasion, Gen. Cuong invited his Lao counterpart and other leaders of the Lao Ministry of National Defense to the celebration of the VPA's 80th foundation anniversary (December 22, 1944 - 2024) and its related events.

Earlier, on the same day, Lieutenant General Phanseng Bounphan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army, received Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong and the VPA’s high-ranking military delegation upon their arrival at the airport in Vientiane.
