PANO - As part of the plan to participate in Exercise Kakadu 2024, from September 12 to 18, Ship 18 from Brigade 171, Naval Region 2, led by Senior Captain Nguyen Viet Anh, Deputy Chief-of-Staff of Naval Region 2, entered the sea phase of the exercise.
This marks the first time a Vietnamese naval ship has joined Exercise Kakadu, which is hosted by the Royal Australian Navy every two years in Darwin, Australia. The contents the Vietnamese naval ship participated in were non-combat. Before each drill, officers from the Royal Australian Navy and several other participating countries exchanged and shared experience with the crew of Ship 18 and the Vietnamese delegation to ensure a unified approach to the tasks.
Royal Australian Navy Commodore Paul O'Grady shared that the sea phase included activities such as formation maneuvering, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief. The capabilities of Ship 18 would be integrated into the exercise as part of these efforts.
