The patient, 23-week pregnant with twins, was experiencing premature membrane rupture, posing a high risk of pre-labor.
This is the patient’s seventh pregnancy. Upon hospital admission, she had been leaking amniotic fluid for two days, and doctors diagnosed that one of the two amniotic sacs had ruptured, creating a high risk of pre-labor, which could threaten the lives of both the mother and the babies.

Staff of Vietnam’s Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 6 transporting the patient onto an aircraft |
Due to the limited medical resources and travel challenges in Mayen Abun, the regional hospital requested an urgent medivac operation to transfer her to a more advanced healthcare facility. In response, Vietnam’s L2FH was mobilized to provide support. This included organizing an urgent air medical transport, comprising two consecutive flights. A team consisting of obstetricians and members of the Air Medivac Team (AMET) was dispatched to Mayen Abun.
Upon arrival, the medical team conducted a thorough assessment, stabilizing the patient’s vital signs and ensuring her condition remained stable throughout the journey. During the flight, the medical team closely monitored her condition, fully prepared to manage an in-flight delivery if necessary.
After safely completing the flight from Mayen Abun to Rubkona Airport, the AMET team promptly handed the patient over to a medical team from the upper-level hospital. The patient then was transferred by Vietnamese staff on a subsequent flight to Juba, where better healthcare facilities awaited.
