Vietnamese Chief of General Staff receives Russian Naval Commander
PANO – Senior-Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief-of-the-General Staff and Deputy-Defense Minister, received Admiral Vladimir Ivanovich Korolev, Russsian Navy Commander, on the afternoon of December 5 at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
Admiral Korolev is leading a high-ranking naval delegation of the Russian Federation to visit Vietnam.
At the meeting, General Giang expressed delight at the fine developments in bilateral defense cooperation between Vietnam and Russia in recent times, which have reflected on visits of defense leaders of the two countries, defense policy dialogues, defense personnel training and exchange of delegations at all levels.
The cooperation between the two navies has also reached a number of positive and practical peaks.
The host believed that the bilateral defense cooperation will continue to grow in the coming time in the three following directions: enhancing cooperation on defense strategy and supporting each other at multilateral forums, promoting traditional defense cooperation toward a long-term, practical and reliable relationship, and maintaining and expanding military technical cooperation on the basis of long time, equality and mutual benefit.
General Giang also lauded the outcomes of the talks held earlier between the Vietnamese and Russian naval delegations.
Admiral Korolev thanked General Giang for the warm reception and expressed pleasure at the results of the meeting with Vietnamese Naval Commander, Rear-Admiral Pham Hoai Nam.
He noted that the two naval delegations at the previous meeting exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, reviewed the results of naval cooperation between the two countries in 2017 and discussed orientations to expand bilateral cooperation in 2018.
Highlighting major outcomes of the bilateral naval cooperation, Admiral Korolev said that the two navies established a hot line in order to promote information exchange.
Regarding future naval cooperation, he affirmed that the Russian Navy is willing to support Vietnam in training naval lecturers, officers and cadets, promote cooperation with the Vietnamese side on the military technical field, and enhance the activities of the Vietnam-Russia Joint Working Group on naval cooperation.
