In the morning, the delegations of the two navies held the 16th meeting on joint patrols under the co-chair of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People’s Navy Rear Admiral Pham Van Hung and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Cambodian Navy Vice Admiral Non Sophat.

An overview of the meeting |
Reports at the event revealed that from December, 2021 to August, 2022, the naval forces of the two countries conducted three joint patrols. Participating naval troops of Vietnam and Cambodia have well carried out joint patrol plans and coordination activities, including hand-flag, signal lamp, and “Hello ASEAN” saluting ceremony (a saluting ceremony at sea between naval ships of ASEAN member states). They have also exercised contents of the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) and practiced search and rescue scenarios.
At the meeting, delegates evaluated the outcomes of the three joint patrols conducted by naval forces of the two countries and discussed cooperation contents for the rest of 2022 and the next year. The two sides agreed to continue carrying out available mechanisms, including exchange of visits and cooperation in logistic and technical service and training.

Speaking at the event, Rear Admiral Pham Van Hung evaluated that the outcomes in implementation of reached agreements on regulations on joint patrols and the establishment of communication channels have contributed to the development of the relationship between the two neighboring countries, two militaries, and two navies. He added that those achievements have contributed to maintaining security, order, peace, and stability in the historical waters and sea of each country and in the region.
For his part, Vice Admiral Non Sophat thanked the Vietnam People’s Navy for the warm welcome and hoped that in the coming time the two navies will continue working together to successfully conduct joint patrols to maintain security and order in the historical waters and consolidate the friendship and solidarity between the two militaries, navies, and peoples.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on coordination contents in the coming time and signed a memorandum of understanding of the 16th meeting on joint patrol.
