Major General Vu Trung Kien talks to Lt. Gen. Anand Prakash Badola.

At the event, Gen. Kien highlighted the constant development and close, practical and intensive cooperation between the two countries’ coast guard forces. These results have not only enhanced the two forces’ maritime law enforcement capabilities, but also made important contributions to fostering the sound relationship between the two forces in particular, and between Vietnam and India in general.

Over the past two years, the VCG has hosted two visits by Indian ships to Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa province. Vietnamese coast guard officers have also attended various training courses hosted by India to strengthen maritime law enforcement capacity.

The VCG and ICG have actively and responsibly participated in multilateral mechanisms and forums of which both are members. Their contributions have played an important role in maintaining a peaceful and stable maritime environment in the region and the world.

Gen. Kien emphasized that the VCG highly appreciates the ICG’s efforts in flexibly and effectively organizing cooperative activities, thereby promoting the close and growing partnership between the two forces.

Highlighting the great potential for cooperation, Lt. Gen. Anand Prakash Badola proposed early resumption of the ship-rider program between the two forces to enhance collaboration in future joint exercises. He also expressed the ICG’s wish to strengthen cooperation in capacity-building programs related to maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, and marine pollution response.

Regarding cooperation in 2026, both sides agreed to continue reciprocal ship visits, actively participate in training programs and conferences hosted by each side, and support one another in multilateral forums.

On this occasion, the VCG invited the ICG delegation to attend the third “Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends” program, scheduled to take place in Hanoi in late 2026.

The ICG, in turn, invited the VCG to take part in the 10th National Pollution Response Exercise (NATPOLREX) in October 2025 in Chennai as an observer, and to send a vessel to participate in the International Coast Guard Fleet Review in 2027, marking the ICG’s 50th founding anniversary.

The two forces also discussed a proposal to institutionalize a joint exercise named “Sahyog - Cooperation” as part of reciprocal ship visits, to be held annually as a symbol of their partnership.

Both sides agreed that the seventh bilateral meeting will be hosted by India in 2026.
