The event was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defense Minister, and Ajay Kumar, Secretary of the Defense Department under the Indian Defense Ministry.

In recent years, Vietnam and India have witnessed growing development in their bilateral traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership.
India considers Vietnam an important pillar in India’s “Act East” policy. Security-defense cooperation is an important component of the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Meanwhile, Vietnam attaches importance to developing comprehensive and practical relations with India. Vietnam also appreciates the multi-faceted cooperation and the achievements they have made over the past time.
Vietnam wants both sides to continue to support each other in defense policy, particularly in fields related to maritime security, territorial disputes, and issues of peace and stability in the region and world.
In the coming time, the two militaries will boost high-ranking delegation exchanges and maintain existing cooperation mechanisms.
Particularly, they agree to effectively implement their signed documents, especially a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bilateral defense cooperation inked in 2009 and the Joint Vision Statement on Vietnam-India Defense Cooperation in the 2015-2020 period, and to extend the MoU by five years.
In addition, the two sides are expecting all regulatory approvals for the signings of the new cooperation agreements in the fields of personnel training, defense industry, and military scientific research.
