During the call, General Giang held that Vietnam highly appreciates the wholehearted sentiment and huge support that the Indian people have reserved for Vietnam over the past time. He believes that the bilateral relations, in which defense ties play a key role, contributing to ensuring the interests of the two countries. The relationship will continue to contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. General Giang then briefed Minister Rajnath Singh on the results of the talks previously held with General Bipin Rawat, India Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee.

After the call, General Giang and Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between the Vietnamese Defense Strategy Institute and the Indian War Research Institute and between the Military Technical Academy of Vietnam and the Defense Institute of Advanced Technology of India.

Earlier on the morning of the same day, General Giang and India’s General Bipin Rawat held talks after the official reception ceremony for the Vietnamese mission.

At the talks, General Bipin Rawat held that the official visit to India of General Giang would contribute greatly to strengthening mutual political trust, substantive cooperation and the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

For his part, the guest believed that the trip would expand the fine relations between the two militaries, serving as an important pillar in the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

General Bipin Rawat presents souvenir to General Giang

Reviewing cooperation results over the past time, the two saw that various achievements in cooperation areas such as military training and participation in UN peacekeeping operations have been recorded. They agreed to further implement the Statement on the Joint Vision on Vietnam-India Defense Relations in the 2015-2020 period and other contents agreed by defense leaders of the two countries. They also said that there should be comprehensive cooperation between the two militaries in defense industry, personnel training, exchange of experience in joining UN peacekeeping operations, and more.

According to General Giang, ADMM+ is proving its effectiveness, as there are more countries that want to join the mechanism. He stressed that cooperation within ADMM+ must rest on the principle of respect for independence and self-reliance of the ASEAN countries and the central role of ASEAN, for peace, stability, security and safety in the region.

In terms of the East Sea (South China Sea) issue, General Giang re-affirmed that Vietnam is consistent with protecting its legitimate interests and dealing with conflicts by peaceful means on the basis of international laws, especially the UNCLOS 1982. Vietnam commits to strictly observing the Declaration on Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and hopes to soon sign the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC). The country strongly condemns all terrorist acts and advocates cooperation among countries to eliminate terrorism.

The host agreed with the guest and affirmed that India always respects and upholds peace and the prosperous development of all countries without interfering in the internal affairs of any other countries.

During the visit, General Giang paid floral tribute at the Indian National War Memorial, met the Indian Security Advisor and Chiefs of the Indian Navy and Air Force.
