Welcoming the Senior Minister of State for Defense of Singapore, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh thanked him for attending in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the foundation day of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and the Vietnam Defense Expo 2024.

During the working session, General Binh emphasized that the VPA serves as the core force in incident, disaster response, and search and rescue. He considered it the heavy responsibility in the context that Vietnam is one of the countries most affected by natural disasters.

He went on to emphasized that alongside receiving international support, Vietnam has actively contributed to the international community’s disaster response efforts. For instance, in early 2023, Vietnam dispatched personnel to assist Turkey in overcoming the aftermath of devastating earthquakes. 

Stressing the importance of international cooperation, the Vietnamese deputy chief of the General Staff noted that Vietnam seeks to strengthen collaboration with Singapore in such areas as training, information sharing, and experience exchange. 

He also took the occasion to thank Singapore for supporting Vietnam in addressing the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi and for hosting Vietnamese military officers at the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) and the Regional Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Coordination Centre (RHCC).

For his part, Zaqy Mohamad expressed his delight in attending the 80th anniversary of the foundation day of the VPA and the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 and visiting VINASARCOM. He underscored the strong traditional friendship between Singapore and Vietnam, praised the capabilities of Vietnamese officers at the IFC and RHCC, and highlighted the outcomes of the cooperation between RHCC and VINASARCOM. The Senior Minister of State for Defense of Singapore affirmed Singapore’s readiness to expand cooperation with Vietnam in incident, disaster response, and search and rescue.
