In his speech, Vietnamese Defense Attaché to Singapore Senior Colonel Nguyen Le Phuong reviewed the 80-year-glorious history of the VPA and confirmed that the Vietnamese military has constantly developed in a strong manner, upheld its position as a revolutionary military from the people, for the people to combat, deserving to be a special political force, a trusted and absolutely-loyal combat force of the Party, State, and people.

The officer stressed that in the new period, the VPA continues to promote its tradition, synergy, strength, professionalism, and close-knit ties with the people. It always stands on the frontline in any difficult circumstances, particularly in disease prevention, and disaster relief.
Regarding defense diplomacy, Col. Phuong confirmed that the Singapore – Vietnam defense ties have developed strongly and effectively, helping strengthen the strategic trust, becoming one of the important pillars in enhancing the two countries’ partnership, contributing to regional environment of peace, stability, and friendship. He also mentioned the defense cooperation agreement signed by the two defense ministers in February 2022 as an important framework for further cooperation activities.

He spoke highly of such activities as delegation exchanges, annual consultation and dialogue mechanisms, cooperation between arms and services, port visits, young officer exchange, search and rescue cooperation, which have brought about good results and benefited both sides.
He also mentioned yearly scholarships granted to Vietnamese military officers by the Ministry of Defense of Singapore, support for Vietnamese officers to well perform their tasks at the Information Fusion Center (IFC). He highlighted the Singaporean government’s emergency aid to Vietnamese people to overcome Typhoon Yagi consequences in September this year, and the two countries’ close coordination, active consultation and mutual support at multilateral forums, particularly ADMM and ADMM+.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung, together with fruitful political ties, the bilateral defense relations have developed comprehensively. He underlined that since the two countries lifted their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the defense cooperation potential has been expanded.
