At the ceremony, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh read the Decision of the State President of Vietnam on the dispatch of the Vietnam L2FH No.1 to UNMISS and officially announced the launch the hospital to UNMISS.

On behalf of the State President, Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Head of the ministry’s Steering Committee of Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, presented the Decision and the National flag to the leadership of the hospital. He said that Vietnam’s participation in the UN peacekeeping operations is a great change in Vietnam’s multilateral cooperation in general and of defense-security collaboration in particular.
He noted that the country has also sent military officials to conflict-plagued countries to take part in policy discussion and planning regarding peace and international security, the promotion of principles of international law and the UN Charter, the struggle against arms race, and the settlement of disputes by peaceful means.

He requested the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations work with relevant agencies to keep close monitoring of the operations of the hospital in South Sudan. He asked the force to strengthen their solidarity to overcome difficulties and effectively carry out its mission overseas.
From the headquarters of the United Nations, Under-Secretary-General for Field Support Atul Khare congratulated Vietnam on the event and sent deep thanks to the Government and military of Vietnam for making restless efforts to develop the Vietnam-UN long-term relations.
Reporting on the preparation of the L2FH No.1, Senior Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, said the hospital’s staff has trained hard to meet the UN’s standards and be selected to replace their peers from the U.K. in Bentiu, South Sudan.
* The Vietnam L2FH No.1 was established on November 25, 2014 with a 63-strong staff, a step to realize the Party’s and State’s policy on joining the UN peacekeeping operations in the field of humanitarian activities.
