According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Ba Hung, Deputy Director of the VNDPKO, the course is designed to provide essential knowledge about U.N. peacekeeping operations and to enhance the practical skills required for mission duties. It also aims to familiarize participants with the operational environment in Abyei, evaluate the unit’s readiness according to U.N. standards, and lay the groundwork for successful deployment and mission execution.

Running from June 16 to September 6, the training program is divided into five key phases: training based on the U.N. Core Pre-deployment Training Materials (CPTM); mission-specific training for UNISFA; instruction on policies and regulations of the Vietnam People's Army regarding peacekeeping; skill development for specialized teams; and comprehensive field exercises.
English language training is integrated throughout the program to improve communication skills among participants.

During the mission-specific phase, participants will study the history, geography, security landscape, and political context of Abyei. They will also learn about U.N. mandates, force deployment frameworks, and rules of engagement (ROE); clarify the concrete tasks assigned to military personnel; and practice using communication equipment, ensuring aviation safety, conducting public affairs, and identifying explosive hazards.
The field exercise phase will include a single-side, two-level command-staff simulation with live components, combined with practical drills involving the operation and maneuvering of equipment and vehicles under real terrain conditions.

The course is conducted by instructors and trainers from various units under the Ministry of National Defense, along with Lieutenant Colonel Fabien Evesque, a technical advisor from the European Union.
