According to Minister Soe Win, the 7.7-magnitude earthquake had a profound impact on Myanmar, resulting in more than 3,480 deaths, over 4,800 injuries, and 214 people still reported missing. The earthquake also caused significant destruction to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and buildings. However, he noted that even amid such immense hardship, the collective strength and international support brought hope to them.
“The collaboration of the international community serves as a beacon of hope. A total of 99 relief flights arrived in Myanmar, bringing 1,797 rescue personnel and 714 tons of relief supplies. We are deeply grateful to the search and rescue teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam, who promptly came to stand with us. Your tireless efforts not only saved lives but also brought hope to the disaster-hit families. Your support proves that unity is humanity’s greatest strength in the darkest of times,” Minister Soe Win stated.
