Upon seeing the Vietnamese soldiers in field uniforms at the hospital, Mrs. Daw Tin Tin Nyo, whose daughter died in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28, was overcome with emotion. Speaking through tears, she expressed her deep gratitude to the Vietnamese rescue forces for helping her family recover her daughter’s body for burial.

Her daughter, Ms. Daw Su Hlaing Nwin (24), lost her life while inside the Ottara Thiri Hospital. For nearly a week, Mrs. Tin Tin Nyo had waited outside the hospital, hoping for news. On April 4, the Vietnamese rescue team found and recovered her daughter’s body from the rubble.
“She was my eldest daughter. She was hardworking, caring, and always looked after me. I am so grateful to the Vietnamese rescue team for bringing my daughter back to us. Since your team arrived, we placed all our hope in you,” Mrs. Tin Tin Nyo said emotionally to Senior Colonel Pham Tan Phong, Deputy Chief of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and Deputy Head of the VPA delegation in Myanmar.
In the midst of his own loss, Mr. Than Kyaw, who lost his wife Ms. Thuzar Lwin (28) in the disaster, also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Vietnamese rescue team for locating and returning her body to the family.
On behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, Senior Colonel Pham Tan Phong offered words of sympathy and encouragement to the grieving families. He conveyed the delegation’s deepest condolences and urged the families to stay strong, take care of their health, and begin rebuilding their lives.

Senior Colonel Phong emphasized that through search and rescue operations at Ottara Thiri Hospital and other sites in Naypyidaw, the Vietnamese delegation was doing its utmost to help ease the pain and loss experienced by local communities.
To further support affected families, the VPA delegation, together with Mytel – the joint venture of Viettel (the Military Industry and Telecoms Group) in Myanmar – distributed instant noodles and small care packages to relatives of the victims, hoping to provide some comfort during this difficult time.
