Addressing the opening ceremony, Major General Tran Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Defense Strategy Institute under the Vietnamese MND, emphasized that defense cooperation is an important pillar in the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. This cooperation has received due attention and direction from the leadership of two defense ministries.

According to Gen. Tuan, the training for officers from the Lao People’s Army in general and the Lao MND’s Military Science - History Department in particular is among the institute’s top important political tasks.

During the one-month course, the Lao officers will study theory in combination with reality, and discuss strategic issues related to national defense. The training contents will help improve the Lao trainees’ competence, and boost the sharing of research methods on defense and military strategies of the militaries of Vietnam and Laos.

Gen. Tuan hoped that the Lao officers will overcome difficulties, exert efforts to complete their training duties according to the program’s schedule, enhance exchange and sharing of experience in leadership, direction, management and research work with instructors and other cadres from the Vietnamese institute and agencies and units where they will have fact-finding trips to, thus promoting understanding and mutual trust between the two militaries.
