French destroyer makes first visit to Vietnam
PANO – The FS Forbin D620 Guided Missile Destroyer/Frigate Warship of the French Navy anchored at Hiep Phuoc port in Nha Be district, Ho Chi Minh City on May 28.
The Horizon-class vessel, 153m in length and 7,050 tons in displacement, has nearly 200 crew-members including 29 officers. Her primary task is protecting aircraft carriers, capital ships or civilian ships from supersonic missile attacks.
The Forbin D620 is staffed with a number of modern missiles, torpedoes, and naval guns including 48 Aster anti-air missiles.

During her week-long visit to Vietnam, the crew will pay courtesy calls on leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Military Region 7 Command, and Naval Region 2 Command.
In addition, both sides will exchange experience in fields of mutual concern. Sailors of the warship will also visit some historical and scenic sites in the city.
This visit is part of a bilateral defense cooperation program, contributing to further expanding the Vietnam-France defense relations and intensifying the two countries’ strategic partnership.
