General Nghia emphasized that Vietnam and Indonesia have continuously seen positive and comprehensive development in their relations across various fields. He added that the upgrade of the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2025 opened a new chapter in the bilateral relationship, creating momentum and opportunities for the two countries to foster the friendship in a more substantive and effective manner.

The Vietnamese deputy chief of the General Staff noted that Vietnam - Indonesia defense ties have been highly valued by both sides, yielding many positive results, particularly in such areas as delegation exchanges at various levels; effective maintenance of consultation and dialogue mechanisms; cooperation between arms and services; training; and young officers exchanges. The cooperation between the two armies has also achieved encouraging outcomes, especially in delegation exchanges, training, and mutual support within the framework of the ASEAN Chiefs of Army Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM).

To further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation between the two armies in the future, General Nghia suggested the two sides continue to promote delegation exchanges at all levels, foster cooperation in human resource training, maintain information exchange mechanism, study the possibility of promoting cooperation and experience sharing in search and rescue operations, expand cooperation in potential fields in accordance with each side’s real situation, and closely consult and support each other at ASEAN-led multilateral forums and international events hosted by either side.

For his part, General Maruli Simanjuntak highlighted the defense cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam and fully agreed with the proposals shared by General Nghia. He affirmed his commitment to actively promote the implementation of the agreed-upon areas of cooperation and expressed his hope that bilateral defense ties in general, and cooperation between the two armies in particular, would continue to develop in a more substantive and effective manner.

During the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on regional and international situations and issues of mutual concern. The Vietnamese Deputy Chief of the General Staff emphasized that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, along with diversification and multilateralization of international relations. He added that Vietnam is always ready to cooperate with other countries and international organizations for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. He also stressed that Vietnam attaches great importance to fostering friendship with other countries, especially with neighboring nations, major powers, strategic partners, comprehensive partners, ASEAN members, and traditional friends. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent “four no's” defense policy and its commitment to resolving all disputes and differences through peaceful means based on international law.

On the same morning, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Nghia and General Maruli Simanjuntak led their delegations to lay wreaths and pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and to heroic martyrs at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs on Bac Son Street in the capital city.
