Speaking highly of the bilateral defense ties as one of the important pillars in the Vietnam-Indonesia bilateral relationship, Gen. Chien said that it has been promoted by the two sides, particularly in all-level delegation exchange, consultation and dialogue mechanisms, corps and services cooperation, training, sharing of information, response to non-traditional security challenges. Attentively, the two sides have always supported each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms and international events hosted by each side.

The Vietnamese defense leader hoped the two sides’ maritime law enforcement forces would accelerate their coordination, while other exchange activities, information and situation sharing, effective response to contingencies at sea, and education and training cooperation would be strengthened in the time to come.
For his part, the Indonesian official confirmed the two countries’ special relations and their similarities in the struggle for national independence. He said that the upgrade of the bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership opened a new era for the two countries’ cooperation across all channels and spheres, making the bilateral relations grow in an intensive, practical, and effective manner.

According to the Indonesian guest, the two countries’ defense cooperation is vital, alongside the cooperation in economy and politics. Thus, he hoped that the two sides would enhance exchange of delegations, cooperation in energy security and between corps and services, particularly between the two navies and coast guard forces.
He took this occasion to invite the Vietnamese MND to attend the Indo Defense Expo & Forum, slated for June this year. The host said that the Vietnamese MND would send representatives to the event whenever receiving the official invitation from Indonesia.

Also at the meeting, both host and guest agreed to further coordinate within ASEAN to build a strong ASEAN, promote the grouping’s centrality, consolidate intra-bloc solidarity, and be consistent with ASEAN’s principles on security and development issues in the region and the world.
