The statement was made by Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien on January 10 during the meeting with Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
At the meeting, Gen. Chien congratulated the Thai Defense Ministry, the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam on the foundation day of the Royal Thai Armed Forces (January 18). Congratulating Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam on his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister believed that under his leadership, the Royal Thai Navy would continue to strongly develop, actively contributing to regional peace, stability, cooperation, and development and strengthening the cooperation between the two militaries in general and two navies in particular.

The host also expressed delight at the continuous development of the enhanced strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand and stressed that on the basis of the good bilateral relationship, the defense ties between the two countries will continue to thrive.
The Vietnamese defense leader highly appreciated the outcomes of cooperation between the two navies in such fields as delegation exchange, joint patrol, information sharing, and collaboration and mutual support at multilateral events. Their cooperation has greatly contributed to maintaining peace, security, and order at sea, facilitating economic development in each country.
Highlighting the outcomes of the working session between the Vietnamese and Thai Naval Chiefs, Gen. Chien asked the two sides to actively actualize the common perception reached by the two countries’ defense leaders at the fifth Vietnam-Thailand Defense Policy Dialogue in December, 2023; organize activities to boost mutual understanding and trust; continue to enhance the effectiveness of the annual joint patrol mechanism; promote cooperation in marine security; share experience in handling non-traditional security issues; send ships to visit each other’s country and participate in activities; cooperate to help troubled fishermen and humanly treat fishermen violating each other’s waters. The Vietnamese deputy defense minister expected that Thailand will have a voice and measures to help Vietnam promptly lift the European Commission (E.C.)'s illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing yellow card.
On this occasion, the host invited leaders of the Thai Defense Ministry and the Royal Thai Armed Forces to attend the second Vietnam International Defense Expo, slated for later this year.
For his part, Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam emphasized that the visit aimed to contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two navies and affirm that the Royal Thai Navy treasures the cooperation with the Vietnam People's Navy. He expressed the delight that over the past time, peace, stability, and development have been maintained in the bordering waters.

The guest emphasized that the joint patrol mechanism between the two navies has become a model of cooperation in ASEAN, clearly stating that the Royal Thai Navy will strengthen cooperation with the Vietnam People's Navy to maintain order in the bordering sea area, promptly support and create favorable conditions for fishermen of the two countries to fish, and foster dissemination and encourage fishermen of the two countries to comply with regulations and not violate each other’s waters.
