Royal Thai Navy’s Commander visits Vietnam
PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister, hosted a reception on June 18 at the Headquarter of the National Defense Ministry for Admiral Luechai Ruddit, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy, who has a working visit to Vietnam.
Welcoming the guest, General Giang highly appreciated the cooperation between the Vietnam People’s Navy and the Royal Thai Navy in different fields, including delegation exchange, joint patrols and training.
He hoped that the two navies will expand their cooperation, contributing to firmly safeguarding national independence and sovereignty of each country as well as maintaining regional peace and stability.
The host affirmed that the Vietnam People’s Army will actively participate in activities during Thailand's ASEAN chairmanship in 2019 and hoped that Thailand will support Vietnam, when it chairs ASEAN in 2020, and join activities hosted by the Vietnam People’s Navy.
On the occasion, General asked the Royal Thai Navy to deal with fishermen-related issues based on the humanitarian spirit and friendship between the two militaries and peoples.
For his part, Admiral Luechai Ruddit highlighted the strong development of Vietnam-Thailand defense relations, including naval cooperation over the past time, saying that the two navies should foster cooperation, especially in joint patrol and training.
He emphasized that Thailand will support Vietnam’s chairing the ASEAN in 2020 and the Royal Thai Navy will actively join activities hosted by Vietnam in 2020. The naval commander said that fishermen-related issues will be solved in line with the Thai laws and in a humanitarian manner.
