At the reception, General Chien stressed that the Vietnam - Australia strategic partnership has constantly consolidated and developed in different areas, including bilateral defense ties.
On the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation signed in 2010 and the declaration on the joint vision on fostering the defense cooperation signed in 2018, the bilateral defense cooperation has been carried out effectively and reaped outcomes in delegation exchange, consultation – dialogue, personnel training, U.N. peacekeeping, military medicine, sharing of experience among arms and services, and settlement of war legacy.
The Vietnamese deputy defense minister expressed thanks to Australia for its support in the COVID-19 combat.
He emphasized that Australia is an important partner of Vietnam and highly appreciated the country’s active acceleration of U.N. peacekeeping cooperation with Vietnam. He underlined Australia’s support for Vietnam in improving its peacekeepers’ competence and airlifting members of Vietnam’s level-2 field hospitals and engineering company to U.N. peacekeeping missions. The assistance has help Vietnam deploy its force in a safe and prompt manner and holds great significance in the bilateral relations, as well as shows the two countries’ responsibility in protecting and building peace in the world.
Confirming that the bilateral defense ties have huge potential to develop and Tasmania has strength in mining, shipbuilding, tourism, education and training, agro-forestry-fishery, the Vietnamese defense chief believed that through the visiting delegation’s working sessions with authorized agencies under Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, the two sides will learn more about each side’s need, strength, and potential to seek cooperation opportunities in the fields of common concern.

Informing that this December the Vietnamese ministry will host the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2022, General Chien expressed his wish to welcome Tasmania’s leaders and its defense industry enterprises to the event.
For his part, Premier of Tasmania Jeremy Rockliff affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Australia. He spoke highly of the intensive development of the bilateral defense ties and the expansion of cooperation in U.N. peacekeeping, English language training, exchange of all-level delegations, and combat against COVID-19.
The Tasmanian leader hoped that the bilateral defense cooperation will be reinforced in the coming time, particularly in maritime security, search and rescue, handling with non-traditional security challenges, and military medicine.
