Defense leader holds virtual meeting with Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces
PANO – Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong worked with Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces General Vong Pisen via a virtual meeting on January 11.
During the event, General Vong Pisen thanked the VPA for always supporting the Cambodian side in all fields, hoping the COVID-19 pandemic would be soon controlled so that the two militaries would implement signed defense cooperation activities, for mutual interests of the two militaries and peoples.

On this occasion, the Cambodian general also shared experience of the Cambodian people and military in response to the pandemic, affirming the important role of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in the COVID-19 prevention and control over the past time.
The Cambodian military leader also announced his country’s plan to organize the 19th ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces’ Meeting (ACDFM-19) and related activities in Phnom Penh in March this year, and invited the Vietnamese delegation to these events.
For his part, General Cuong expressed his belief that the ACDFM-19 will be held successfully, contributing to promoting the military-defense cooperation channel within ASEAN in a practical and effective manner.
He also underscored that the VPA is ready to assist and support the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to successfully host ASEAN military and defense conferences in 2022. Sharing the country’s experience in the fight against the pandemic, he affirmed that the VPA always plays a pioneering role in the COVID-19 combat in localities and in the military.

The Vietnamese deputy defense minister also suggested that General Vong Pisen continue to direct relevant agencies to closely work with the VPA in order to synchronously and effectively implement cooperation activities as listed in the bilateral defense cooperation plan for 2022 signed by the two sides’ defense ministers, focusing on the exchange of delegations at all levels, information sharing, cooperation in managing border and crime prevention, among others.
