Speaking at the talk, General Phan Van Giang hoped that the visit of the Vietnamese State President and the outcomes of the talks will contribute to further enhancing the traditional friendship, good neighborliness, and comprehensive cooperation between the two peoples and militaries, for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

In turn, Cambodian Defense Minister Tea Banh expressed his delight at welcoming and meeting with the Vietnamese counterpart. He congratulated the Vietnam People’s Army on the occasion of its 77th founding anniversary.

Regarding the defense ties, the two ministers affirmed that the bilateral cooperation has been comprehensively and effectively implemented amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. The cooperation between military regions, border guards, navies, and coast guards of the two sides has been increasingly enhanced.

Both sides have promoted cooperation in training with numerous refresher courses while supporting each other in the COVID-19 prevention and control. Notably, the two militaries successfully organized activities on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of Cambodian PM Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s national salvation journey in June 2021, leaving good impressions on both countries’ people.

The two ministers agreed to enhance collaboration to organize external activities in 2022, especially with a focus on improving exchange of strategic matters, maintaining high-level meetings and current cooperation mechanisms, promoting cooperation among military regions, border guards, and border management and protection forces, contributing to ensuring security and social order and safety in border areas. In addition, the two sides will accelerate political education to raise troops’ awareness of the traditional friendship between the two nations and two militaries. They will also boost cooperation among the three militaries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, maintaining annual meetings among the three defense ministers, and supporting each other on regional and international forums, especially ASEAN-led ones.

Congratulating Cambodia for its ASEAN Chairmanship 2022, Minister Giang believed that under the leadership of Deputy PM and Defense Minister Tea Banh and support from ASEAN members, including Vietnam, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense will successfully hold meetings within the ASEAN defense cooperation framework, contributing to maintaining motivation for cooperation and mutual benefit of ASEAN, for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Earlier, Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang and Cambodian Deputy PM and Defense Minister Samdech Picheysena Tea Banh signed a defense cooperation agreement for 2022 under the witness of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Hun Sen.
