The bombs were discovered by fishermen on September 15 near the alluvial islet in the Red River. Local defense forces secured the site and reported to higher authorities. On September 18, sappers from the Hanoi Capital High Command, in coordination with relevant ward military units, recovered the bombs and transported them to Bac Ninh’s Cam Son firing range for disposal.
According to authorities, the bombs were identified as M-118 demolition bombs, each weighing over 1,300 kilograms, measuring 220 centimeters in length, with a diameter of 65 centimeters, and containing more than 800 kilograms of TNT. Both were found with intact fuses, posing a high level of danger.
In 2024, three bombs of the same type were discovered near Long Bien bridge and were also safely defused by relevant forces.
