Dien Bien safely removes 350kg wartime bomb
A bomb weighing around 350kg was safely removed from a residential area in the Northwestern province of Dien Bien after being discovered by soldiers helping with flood recovery efforts.
On August 4, while clearing debris near Pa Vat Bridge in Pa Vat 2 hamlet of Muong Luan commune, troops from Regiment 82 of Division 355 under Military Region 2 spotted a suspicious object suspected to be a bomb. They quickly secured the area and restricted access to ensure public safety.

The provincial Military Command later deployed an explosive ordnance disposal team and 20 soldiers to remove the bomb and transport it to a safe location pending detonation.
Identified as a U.S.-made MK117 bomb with an intact fuse, the device posed a serious risk if triggered.
The operation reflects the armed forces’ efforts in ensuring safety for communities recovering from natural disasters.
