According to reports presented at the conference, military units have maintained 19 specialized search teams operating in Laos and Cambodia. During the 2025-2026 dry season, these teams collected 174 sets of martyrs’ remains in Laos and 850 in Cambodia.
Domestically, the units have maintained 13 temporary search teams. Notably, since the launch of the “500-day campaign to accelerate the search for, collection and identification of martyrs’ remains,” they have mobilized additional forces and closely combined professional methods with modern technology. As of August 24, they searched for and collected 877 sets of remains.
At the conference, delegates analyzed existing difficulties and shared lessons learned in organizing forces, conducting surveys, verifying information sources, studying documents, and reviewing the history of battles.
Speaking at the conference, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Gau recognized and praised the achievements of agencies, units, localities, and steering committees at all levels. He also highly appreciated the constructive opinions and practical experience shared by delegates regarding the search for and collection of martyrs’ remains.
To successfully achieve the goals of the 500-day campaign, with the search for and collection of martyrs’ remains as a key task, the deputy defense minister asked relevant agencies, units, and localities to continue raising awareness of the significance and importance of the mission, strengthen leadership and direction, and strictly implement the Party’s regulations.
He requested the forces to review their areas of operation and strengthen the collection, verification, and management of information. Searches and excavations should only be conducted when information is accurate and well-founded. Units were also asked to step up the application of science and technology, organize forces scientifically, provide specialized training, ensure safety during operations, and expand international cooperation.
To mobilize the combined strength of the entire political system and society, units were urged to intensify public outreach and awareness activities and coordinate closely with localities in Viet Nam, as well as with relevant authorities in Laos and Cambodia. They must strictly comply with the law and respect local customs and traditions.

Units were also asked to remain closely engaged with their assigned areas, particularly remote regions and former revolutionary bases, to verify and collect information and develop feasible search plans. They must ensure sufficient personnel and equipment, strengthen inspections, and pay close attention to the material and spiritual well-being of officers and soldiers performing the mission, while promptly recognizing and rewarding those with outstanding performance.
On this occasion, the MND and Military Region 7 presented gifts to units directly involved in the search for and collection of martyrs’ remains.
