According to reports, the remains were discovered by the Search and Collection Team of Defense-Economic Unit 337 between May 19 and June 5, 2025, in Xa Re village (Huong Tan commune) and A Xoc village (Huong Lap commune), both in Huong Hoa district. The remains were found at depths ranging from 0.8 to 1 meter, along with personal items such as buttons, hammocks, ropes, parachute cords, K54 and 12.7mm shell cases, wallets, pens, and others. While many bones were recovered, none of the remains have been identified.

According to the Internal Affairs Office of Huong Hoa District, the site where the remains were found had once been a location where units of Division 304, Army Corps 2, took part in the Battle of Khe Sanh.

The search and collection of martyrs’ remains is regarded as a significant political task, reflecting the deep gratitude and responsibility of the Party, State, military, and people for those who sacrificed their lives for national independence and freedom.
In the time ahead, Defense-Economic Unit 337 will continue working with local authorities and agencies to strengthen survey and verification efforts, contributing to the mission of locating and recovering martyrs’ remains in the western border area of Quang Tri Province.
