With deep gratitude, the delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate the immense sacrifices of the fallen heroes and martyrs who fought bravely and laid down their lives for the cause of national liberation and reunification.
The remains of 38 martyrs were recovered by the Can Tho City Military Command’s Search and Collection Team and Team K90 under the Department of Political Affairs of Military Region 9. They were found in Truong Long Tay, Phong Dien, Truong Thanh, Thoi Lai, Vinh Vien and Xa Phien communes. Among the 38 sets of remains, one has been identified as that of Nguyen Thi Ut, a guerrilla in Tan Hoa commune who died in 1969.

* On the same day in Quang Tri, according to Team 584 of the Department of Political Affairs under the Quang Tri provincial Military Command, the unit has found and collected a set of martyrs’ remains in Nhu Le residential area and a mass grave containing the remains of two fallen soldiers in Tri Buu area, both in Quang Tri ward.
The remains of the fallen soldier in Nhu Le residential area were discovered at a depth of approximately 0.8 meters, still wrapped in a poncho and secured with signal wire. Although the bones had deteriorated, the teeth remained relatively intact and suitable for DNA sampling.
In Tri Buu area, the remains had been scattered by bombing and were found mixed with bricks and rocks. Numerous bone fragments, including leg bones, foot bones and teeth, were recovered.
Based on the condition of the remains, the number of bones recovered and the associated artifacts, Team 584 determined that the site was a mass grave containing the remains of two fallen soldiers scattered by bombing inside a bunker.

As of August 26, Team 584 collected the remains of 20 fallen soldiers in Quang Tri ward. They have been brought to Team 584’s barracks under the Department of Political Affairs, the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command for temporary protection and care.
Team 584 is currently coordinating with relevant authorities to expand the search and collection of fallen soldiers’ remains in Quang Tri ward.
