Huge war-left bomb successfully detonated in Dong Cuong Commune
PANO – On October 10, the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command reported that the Command of the Defensive Area Region 5 – Mau A and the engineering troops of the provincial Military Command had safely detonated a huge war-left bomb discovered in Dong Cuong Commune, Lao Cai province.
Earlier, Le Ngoc Minh, a resident of Trai Hut Hamlet, found a round metal object protruding about 20cm above the ground while farming in a cornfield in San Bay Hamlet, Dong Cuong Commune. He immediately reported the discovery to the local military command.

Upon receiving the information, the Dong Cuong Commune Military Command and the Command of the Defensive-area Region 5 – Mau A quickly deployed forces to the site to verify the report, cordon off the area, install warning signs, inform nearby residents, and assign guards to secure the scene.
Verification confirmed that the bomb was an item of unexploded ordnance dropped by U.S. forces during the air raids on northern Vietnam between 1968 and 1970. The bomb measured 0.4m in diameter, 1.2m in length, and weighed 340kg. The provincial engineering troops then successfully moved and safely detonated the bomb in accordance with technical regulations, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and local people.
