The bomb was discovered on June 14 during construction of an anti-erosion embankment along the Se Pon River, less than 70 meters from the border marker. It measured 1.54 meters in length and 274mm in diameter.
Upon receiving the report from Quang Tri’s Mine Action Center, EOD1 surveyed the site and coordinated with Thanh Border Post, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the provincial Military Command, local defense units, and other agencies to plan the disposal.
According to PeaceTrees Vietnam technical experts, the burning method allows explosives to combust slowly, minimizing noise and vibration while protecting nearby property and infrastructure.
On August 13, after nearly an hour of work, the team safely destroyed the bomb, removing a major threat to local residents. During the process, residents were evacuated from the danger zone.
