The delegation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, led by then Deputy Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, at the opening session of the Geneva Conference on Indochina, on the morning of May 8, 1954.

Kreyness highlighted that the 1954 Geneva Conference marked the first time Vietnamese diplomacy stepped onto the international stage and demonstrated the victory of the revolutionary forces of the three Indochina countries – Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, which led to the complete dissolution of the French colonial system.

Globally, the Geneva Agreement carries righteous power that encourages countries in the world in their revolutionary struggle for national liberation. Along with the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the conference’s achievements were recognized by the international community. Even after 70 years, they are still mentioned as a factor paving the way for decolonization on the global scale.

According to the leader of the PCA, the Geneva Conference is an epochal lesson on resolving international disagreements and conflicts by peaceful means, especially in the current world context where many complicated conflicts are taking place. Many countries around the world have learned lessons about international conduct through this event, which is the need to move towards a democratic and multipolar world, where international norms are respected, not a world order unequally imposed by powerful countries.
