Dien Bien holds burial service for 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers found in Laos
PANO - The Party Committee, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front chapter of Dien Bien province, in coordination with the Steering Committee for the Search, Collection and Verification of Martyrs’ Remains (Steering Committee 515) of Military Region 2, solemnly held a memorial and burial service for 12 Vietnamese volunteer troops and advisors, whose remains have recently found in Laos, at Tong Khao War Cemetery in Thanh Nua commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province on June 19.

Previously, on June 18, the provincial People’s Committee, the Steering Committee 515 of Military Region 2, and Laos’ functional authorities held a ceremony to receive and repatriate these sets of remains.
These remains were collected by the Search and Collection Team of the Department of Political Affairs of Military Region 2 in Muang Ngoy village in the district of the same name, Luang Prabang province, Laos.
In his speech at the service, Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and Head of the provincial Steering Committee 515 Vu A Bang, emphasized that during their time in Laos, the Vietnamese volunteer troops and advisors stood united with Lao troops and people, overcame all difficulties and hardships, sacrificed themselves for the cause of liberation of Laos, thus strengthening the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos. Their great contribution and sacrifice were a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism, reflecting the fervent desire for independence, freedom and happiness for the two nations. The Dien Bien official emphasized that the names and feats-of-arms of these heroic martyrs would be remembered forever in the history of each country.

On behalf of the government and people of six Northern Lao provinces, Major General Sivone Xaiyavong, Director of Public Security of Oudomxay province, expressed deep gratitude to Vietnamese volunteer troops and advisors who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Lao people.
