The patient, Nguyen Xuan T. (born in 1983, from Hoai Nhon, Gia Lai), is a crew-member of trawler BD 99269 TS.

At around 8:00p.m. on June 14, while fishing, a lead net-pulling rope sliced through the fisherman’s right knee, severing his lower right leg and causing severe blood loss. After receiving on-site first aid, the patient was transported to the Truong Sa Island Infirmary at 4:00p.m. on June 15.

Medical staff urgently perform emergency procedures on the patient.

Upon admission, the patient was conscious but exhausted, in severe pain, and pale due to hemorrhagic shock. Medical staff diagnosed a severed lower right leg and a fracture in the lower third of the right femur.

The medical team from the Military Hospital 354 immediately held an online emergency consultation with experts from Military Hospital 175 and performed emergency procedures, including fluid resuscitation, pain relief, wound debridement, hemostasis, and stump-creation surgery.

Because the patient has blood type B and had lost a significant amount of blood, the infirmary promptly mobilized two units of blood from military personnel and residents on the Island for an emergency transfusion, helping to stabilize his condition.

The patient is currently in stable condition and remains under observation. A request has been made for his prompt transfer to the mainland by sea for further treatment.

The successful emergency response reaffirmed the vital role and responsibility of military medical forces on frontline Islands, serving as a reliable pillar for fishermen operating at sea, contributing to the protection of the nation’s maritime sovereignty.
