The KN-407 approaching the trawler

Earlier, at 1:30 p.m. on May 13, while operating in waters bordering Vietnam and Indonesia, the KN-407 received a distress report from trawler BT 99397 TS regarding a crew-member injured during fishing operations.

The BT 99397 TS captained by Le Gia Huy, born in 1983 and from Vinh Long at the helm, had four crew-members on board and was engaged in trawl fishing.

During the retrieval of the fishing nets, a towing cable snapped and struck fisherman Tran Van Deo, born in 1979, causing a fracture to his left arm.

Immediately after receiving the report, officers and crew-members aboard KN-407 quickly maneuvered toward the trawler to provide emergency assistance. Medical personnel on the fisheries surveillance ship examined the victim, administered first aid, bandaged and temporarily immobilized the injury, and provided medication for Tran Van Deo.

After the victim’s condition stabilized, the KN-407 transferred him back to trawler BT 99397 TS for transport to the nearest medical facility for further treatment.

The timely rescue operation reflected the responsibility, pro-activeness, and rapid response of fisheries surveillance personnel in supporting fishermen operating at sea. The effort also helped strengthen fishermen’s trust in the fisheries surveillance force while reaffirming its key role in protecting fishing grounds and ensuring the safety of fishermen at sea.
