Ship 319 approaches distressed fishing vessel QNa 92954 TS at sea. |
Major General Tran Quang Tuan, Commander of Coast Guard Region 2, stated, “At 7:30 a.m. on June 11, upon receiving information that fishing vessel QNa 92954 TS suffered a mechanical failure, the Coast Guard Region 2 Command ordered Ship 319, which was operating around Ly Son Island, to carry out a rescue mission. Despite the complex developments of Typhoon No.1 and the urgency of the situation, Senior Colonel Dao Nguyen Chuong, the ship's commanding officer, promptly maneuvered Ship 319 toward the scene to rescue the distressed vessel and its crew.”
The vessel QNa 92954 TS, which lost engine power, was located more than 60 nautical miles from Ship 319. Senior Colonel Chuong ordered the ship to proceed at full speed. The communications team maintained continuous contact attempts, but due to the severe weather and sea conditions, signal transmission and reception were limited, and initial search efforts proved unsuccessful.

Ship 363 makes contact and secures a towing line to fishing vessel DNa 91107 TS. |
While Ship 319 was still searching for QNa 92954 TS, at 5:30 p.m. the same day, it received a second distress report that fishing vessel QNa 92032 TS also broke down near the same area.
Determined to rescue the fishermen at all costs, Ship 319 continued the mission. At 5:50 p.m., the crew located both QNa 92954 TS and QNa 92032 TS approximately 20 nautical miles east of Ly Son Island. By 8:20 p.m., the crew had completed the towing setup and began towing both vessels safely back to Ly Son Island.
That same night, Coast Guard Region 2 Command received another emergency report: Fishing vessel DNa 91107 TS, captained by Nguyen Van Ung, suffered a gearbox failure while operating 18 nautical miles northeast of the Cham Islands. At the time, Ship 363 of Coast Guard Region 2, commanded by Senior Colonel Tran Dinh Nam, was operating in nearby waters. Upon receiving the distress signal, the ship was immediately dispatched to carry out the rescue.
Due to Typhoon No.1’s impact, the Cham Islands area was experiencing heavy rain and strong winds. Ship 363 reached the location, but could not safely approach DNa 91107 TS due to the risk of collision. The crew skillfully maneuvered the vessel with the wave direction to safely approach the fishing boat. By 4:00 a.m. on June 12, Ship 363 successfully reached DNa 91107 TS and towed it to the Cham Islands.
