However, the locality’s marine economic development has encountered a large number of difficulties and challenges due to complex geographical location and severe impacts of climate change and extreme weather, including flooding, landslides, sea level rise, erosion, to name but a few. This has exerted negative effects on local people’s life, especially young students. Some have to drop out of school so that they could work to earn extra money to support their families.

An officer of the Border Post of Thuan An Port Border Gate gives gifts of the “Paving the way to school for children” program to students in difficult circumstances.

Knowing about this situation, since 2016, Border Post of Thuan An Port Border Gate has provided financial support for four students in difficult circumstances under the program “Paving the way to school for children” launched by the Vietnam Border Guard Command.

The unit has mobilized its officers and soldiers to deduct part of their salaries and allowances to support needy children from grades 1 to 12 and children of policy beneficiaries, helping them have better learning conditions.

Student Nguyen Thi Thu Xuan, whose father is former medical staff of the Border Post of Thuan An Port Border Gate, is one of the students to receive financial support from the program. In 2018, her father died due to a fatal disease. Her mother alone is raising her three children.

Ms. Huynh Thi Gai, Xuan’s mother, touchingly shared that the unit’s support is a source of spiritual and material encouragement for her family, helping Xuan feel secure to continue going to school.

According to Lieutenant Cao Duc Anh, Head of the Mass Mobilization Team of Border Post of Thuan An Port Border Gate, “Paving the way to school for children” is a meaningful program, receiving great support from the unit's officers and soldiers. The unit has closely coordinated with the local authorities and schools to help students in need.

Meanwhile, the unit has required officers to regularly encourage and help students in their learning. There remain many students living in difficult conditions, thereby the whole society should join hands to pave the way to school for needy children, he underlined.
