Coming to the community, the servicemen have embodied the spirit of the historic “Quang Trung warriors,” braving sun and rain, giving up rest days, and racing against time to rebuild sturdy houses and restore damaged structures for flood-affected families.
On Saturday, despite persistent rain in Khe Tre commune, nearly 100 officers and soldiers from agencies and units under the Hue Municipal Military Command were on site from early morning. They reinforced embankments in landslide-prone areas and assisted households in rebuilding and repairing houses that collapsed or were damaged during the floods in October. Young soldiers in their late teens and early twenties worked tirelessly alongside other forces and local residents, digging foundations, leveling ground, tying steel rebar, and pouring concrete to rebuild houses that had collapsed, repair houses left leaning or severely damaged by floods, and reinforce areas at high risk of landslides.

Landslide-prone areas are reinforced before construction begins. |
After one week, the house of Nguyen Dinh Luon’s family in Xuan Phu hamlet has gradually taken shape. Located on land by Thac Mo stream that was left bare after flooding caused by Typhoon No.12, the site has been reinforced by officers and soldiers of Regiment 6, who built embankments, installed pillars, and laid solid foundations to support the construction of a new house.
Nguyen Dinh Luon’s family is among the most disadvantaged households in Khe Tre commune, having lost their house when it collapsed during Typhoon No.12. To help the family resettle after the flood, departments, mass organizations, and businesses provided financial support totaling VND 200 million. On this occasion, officers and soldiers of Regiment 6 also contributed labor to assist with construction.

Making use of every available moment to help families tie rebar and pour concrete for house construction. |
Sharing his joy as his family prepares to move into a new house after days of living in a makeshift shelter, Luon said that the flood left his family with nothing, as all their belongings and lifetime savings were swept away. With support from authorities at all levels and the dedicated help of the soldiers, his long-held hope of living in a solid, permanent house is gradually becoming a reality.
The same atmosphere of relief and happiness can be felt at other construction sites. At the houses of Tran Van Vien in Xuan Phu hamlet and Nguyen Thi Hiep in Phu Nam hamlet, the sounds of conversation and laughter from officers, soldiers, and supporting agencies have filled the air as rebuilding efforts continue.

House foundations are firmly reinforced. |
Nguyen Thi Hiep recalled that floodwaters surged in unexpectedly during the night in October. She and her husband were evacuated to safety by militiamen. When the water receded the next day and they returned their house, the devastation left them overwhelmed and unsure how to continue. Thanks to financial support of VND 150 million from departments, organizations, and businesses, along with the soldiers’ assistance in rebuilding, the family has been able to start anew, an experience that moved them deeply.
According to Duong Thanh Phuoc, Chairman of the Khe Tre Commune People’s Committee, flooding caused by the circulation of Typhoon No.12 at the end of October inflicted severe damage on the locality. Infrastructure, electricity systems, and transport routes suffered heavy damage, while three households lost their houses entirely and dozens of others experienced structural damage. Given the mountainous terrain, mobilizing manpower and funding for reconstruction posed major challenges. The support of departments, organizations, businesses, and the military’s contribution of labor has, therefore, played a crucial role in helping the locality and its residents gradually overcome these difficulties.

The “warriors” become true construction workers. |
Guided by the principle of “leaving no one behind and ensuring no one has to live in unsafe or damaged houses,” and with financial contributions from various agencies and businesses, the Hue Municipal Military Command has mobilized nearly 100 officers and soldiers to help families renovate, upgrade, and repair houses affected by floods. Through collective efforts, the troops have worked tirelessly so that residents can welcome Spring and celebrate Tet in new, solid, and dignified houses.
Nguyen Quang Hung, a corporal from Company 1, Battalion 1, Regiment 6, said that as a native of Hue, he understands the hardships local people endure during natural disasters. For that reason, he and his comrades make full use of every available moment to help families rebuild and repair damaged houses so they can quickly stabilize their lives.

Soldiers, together with other forces and local residents, race against time to build sturdy houses in the flood-hit area of Khe Tre. |
Colonel Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 6, who directly commands the unit’s participation in “Quang Trung Campaign” in Khe Tre commune, noted that despite unfavorable weather, difficult transportation, heavy workloads, tight timelines, and limited materials, the unit has exceeded planned progress. He emphasized that soldiers are encouraged to treat the people’s work as if it were for their own families, carrying out every task with the highest sense of responsibility.
Determined to help families secure stable housing during the winter, officers and soldiers of Regiment 6 have continued working through midday and evenings to accelerate construction. With the spirit of “serving the people” that defines Uncle Ho’s soldiers, all completed houses meet technical standards, demonstrate sound aesthetics, and satisfy the “three solids” criteria (solid foundations, solid walls, and solid roofs), ensuring resistance to storms and floods while meeting the practical needs of residents in the flood-prone land of Hue.
