The event was attended by Political Commissar of the provincial Military Command Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Trung, leaders of Vung Tau city’s Party Committee and People’s Committee, and around 200 fishermen and owners of ships in the city.

Vung Tau city has more than 2,000 ships, of which 840 fish offshore with more than 12,000 people working in the fisheries sector.

The “Celebrating Tet with fishermen” program was a new significant and practical activity, jointly held by the unit and local Party Committee and authorities to support fishermen who are fishing at sea and protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands.

During the program, the organizing held a banh tet (round glutinous rice cake) wrapping competition, folk games, tug of war, and bag jumping, among others.

According to Political Commissar of the Military Command of Vung Tau province Colonel Ngo Khanh, the “Celebrating Tet with fishermen” program aimed to share the local authorities’ efforts of taking care of fishermen and encourage them to continue fishing at sea, abide by the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies and laws, and actively participate in protecting national sovereignty over sacred sea and islands.

Joining the event, Nguyen Van Lam, a fisherman in Ward 5 of Vung Tau city, said, “This is the first time that I have celebrated Tet held by troops and local authorities. I am touched and would like to thank agencies and armed forces’ care for fishermen.”

The “Celebrating Tet with fishermen” followed the military command’s "Breakfast with fishermen" program in 2022. The program aimed to strengthen the solidarity among local authorities, armed forces and ships’ owners and fishermen; firmly consolidate the close relationship between the troops and people to firmly safeguard national sea and islands.
