Previously, the ship had a hull failure and sank when fishing about 80 nautical miles off the Southwest of Nha Trang city in the Truong Sa (Spratly) waters at 8:00 p.m. on January 1. Its eight crew-members tried to fix the ship but they could not. The ship captain then sent a mayday to the local border guard force.

The troubled fishermen brought ashore

By 11:35 p.m. the same day, Ship PY 90225-TS captained by Pham Thanh Phi and Ship PY 96039 TS captained by Nguyen Van Hiep operating nearby received the news and moved to the scene to rescue the troubled trawler.

Inquiring after the troubled fishermen

At 4:00 a.m. on January 2, the two ships reached the scene and rescued all fishermen on the troubled ship. They then informed the Khanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command before taking all fishermen to Ba Ngoi Port in Cam Ranh city by 5:00 a.m. on January 3.

After arriving in the mainland, the fishermen were inquired after and provided with healthcare and food.

Handing over gifts to the troubled fishermen

The fishermen then were handed over to their families. The Cam Ranh branch of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee supported VND 1 million to each fisherman.
