Five distressed Chinese fishermen handed over to Chinese Consulate General
PANO - At the headquarters of Border Squadron 2, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau provincial Border Guard Command, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, and relevant agencies on January 8 handed over five Chinese distressed fishermen to the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

Reportedly, at 6a.m on December 30, 2024, trawler CM 46799A of China with Li Jianhua at the helm was sinking. Five Chinese fishermen on board left the trawler, holding on a life raft and go drifting.
At around 8a.m. the same day, fishing boat BT 93992 TS, captained by Vo Huu Tinh, a resident in Hoa Tay commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province, spotted the five crew-members and tried to rescue them. The Vietnamese captain later contacted the mainland for emergency assistance.
Upon receiving the news, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command dispatched coast guard ship 8005 to take the rescue mission. At 6:15p.m., Ship 8005 safely brought all five Chinese crew-members ashore and handed over them to the local border guard force.

Senior Colonel Tran Ngoc Tang, Second-in-Command and Chief of Staff of Ba Ria - Vung Tau provincial Border Guard Command, said that after receiving the fishermen, his unit gave them accommodation, health care at Border Squadron 2. It also coordinated with functional forces to carry out legal procedures as regulated. This realized the Vietnamese Party and State’s foreign policy in the humane and international cooperation spirit, helping tighten the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and China.
At the handover ceremony, captain of trawler CM 46799A touchingly expressed thanks to the Vietnamese fishing boat, crew-members and relevant agencies, Vietnamese coast guard force for their timely rescue and support.
