Ho Quoc Hau being rescued and given medical care in Corps 20’s ambulance

Earlier, at about 12:30 p.m. the same day, at the Cat Lai Ferry terminal, Ho Quoc Hau, born in 1982 and residing in Cat Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City, was waiting to board the ferry to travel from Cat Lai ward to Dai Phuoc commune of Dong Nai province. As a thunderstorm struck, he was blown into the river by a sudden gust of wind.

Immediately after the incident, two ferry employees jumped into the river to rescue him. However, due to strong currents and heavy rain with violent winds, all three were swept downstream, putting both the victim and the rescuers in great danger.

From B1 wharf duty post at Tan Cang Cat Lai Port, the Wharf Operations Team of the Staff of Corps 20, spotted the incident and reported it to higher levels, who promptly mobilized forces and equipment for the rescue.

After more than 20 minutes of deployment in harsh weather with limited visibility, by 12:55 p.m., the rescue team of Corps 20 successfully pulled Ho Quoc Hau and the two ferry staff members to safety. Medical staff from Tan Cang Medical Center immediately provided first aid. The two ferry employees were found to be in stable health and returned to work shortly afterward.

Ho Quoc Hau, however, showed signs of shock and required further medical attention. He was transferred to Le Van Thinh Hospital, where doctors confirmed that his condition had stabilized and he is now recovering.

Alongside maintaining 24/7 operations at Tan Cang Cat Lai Port, the duty forces of the Staff of Corps 20 strictly uphold readiness protocols, coordinate closely with relevant units, and ensure security and safety across the port and its surrounding areas. This is especially critical during complex weather conditions, such as storms and heavy rain, where they remain committed to safeguarding officials, workers, local residents, vehicles, and business activities in the area.
